Designed to mask dark stains or metal substructures, composite tints and opaque materials are applied prior to the placement of direct composite restorations. These materials are designed to either hide dark and stained dentin by making it opaque or by tinting these darker materials to allow the final composite restoration to better blend in with surrounding teeth. Because you never know when you will need to hide something until it is uncovered during prep, keeping an opaque or tint system on hand is a good idea for any practice using composites for direct restorations.
