Vinyl Polysiloxane Impression Materials (VPS)

Vinyl Polysiloxane Impression Materials (VPS) are hydrophilic materials used for dental and gingiva impressions that enable a dentist to capture highly accurate impressions that resist distortion and tearing when being removed. VPS impressions allow for better fitting restorations. The material allows for a range of viscosities from light body that can be administered with a syringe, to heavy body and putty materials often used for bite impressions. Depending on the restoration or impression needed, various viscosity VPS materials can be used. Set time can vary depending on viscosity and different VPS brands, but often ranges anywhere from 2 to 5 minutes. A dental practice should have a range of vinyl polysiloxane impression material viscosities to allow for a range of patient restorations and impressions.
