EnvisionTEC launched two new orthodontic materials at LMT Lab Day Chicago 2018: E-OrthoShape and E-Ortholign.
E-OrthoShape is an economical new material for direct 3D printing of orthodontic models on which clear thermoformed aligners are created, according to a press release. The grey ABS-like material prints in 100 micron layers. E-OrthoShape can be printed on any of EnvisionTEC’s DLP machines.
E-Ortholign is designed for the direct 3D printing of first aligners that are used to hold a patient’s teeth in place after brackets are removed and before treatment is completed with a series of thermoformed aligners. The new material, which meets the biocompatibility, stability, flexion and strength requirements for a first aligner, is progressing through regulatory approval processes.
With an EnvisionTEC 3D printer, a first aligner can be created in an office or lab after an impression or scan is taken of a patient’s teeth following bracket removal. The tray can be created while a patient waits and before standard thermoformed aligners are manufactured, which takes design and manufacturing time.
