A pair of new surgical products from Hu-Friedy were developed in collaboration with leading dental clinicians.
The new products are the Giles de Quincey Tunneling Instruments and the Allen Membrane Measurement Card. The Tunneling Instruments were designed to reduce pressure and enhance access to the mucogingival junction, while the measurement card is a sturdy and sterilizable surface for measuring and trimming membrane materials, according to a press release.
Available in two angulations and handcrafted from surgical grade stainless steel, the tunneling instruments feature smooth, dull working ends, a performance engineered coating, and a black finish for contrast with the surgical site. Also fabricated from surgical grade stainless steel, the measurement card is flat, compact and provides a hard cutting surface.

Hu-Friedy Partners with Leading Clinicians to Expand Surgical Offering
Introduces Tunneling Instruments and a Membrane Measurement Card
Chicago – Hu-Friedy, a global leader in the manufacturing of dental instruments and products, introduces the Giles de Quincey Tunneling Instruments and Allen Membrane Measurement Card as part of the company’s extensive surgical instruments offering.
Hu-Friedy has a long history of collaborating with leading dental practitioners to develop new technologies and innovative designs to help clinicians perform at their best, and these two new Surgical products are the latest example.
Developed in conjunction with Netherlands-based dental surgeon Dr. Giles de Quincey, the modified tunneling instruments are used to reduce pressure and enhance access when tunneling the tissue to the mucogingival junction. Instruments are available in two different angulation options.
The benefits of the tunneling instruments include:
- Smooth, dull working ends for reduced risk of perforation during tunneling procedures
- Performance engineered coating for a harder, smoother surface for enhanced lubricity
- Distinct black finish for enriched contrast and visual acuity at the surgical site and underlying tissue
- Handcrafted with surgical grade stainless steel for optimal strength and corrosion resistance
The Allen Membrane Measurement card was developed with Dallas-based periodontist Dr. Pat Allen. It is used as a sturdy, sterilizable surface to measure and trim membrane material.
Features of the Allen Membrane Measurement card are:
- Flat, hard cutting surface that cleans easily with steam sterilization and ultrasonic cleaning
- Compact size and shape procedural set ups
- Handcrafted with surgical grade stainless steel for longevity and corrosion resistance
