Dental equipment manufacturer Planmeca Oy developed Planmeca Romexis software as an open architecture platform, making it compatible with most software operating systems and dental equipment.
Now, Planmeca has taken this technology to a new level with Planmeca Romexis Cloud Service, which works with Planmeca Romexis software so dentists can access and share diagnostic images from any imaging unit. This information is then accessible on most digital platforms, including mobile, Mac and Windows-based operating systems, and can be stored for up to 14 days.
“Dentistry is moving towards a complete digital workflow and new imaging units on the market now require software to run,” said Bob Pienkowski, president of Planmeca, Inc. based in Roselle, Ill.
Planmeca is rolling out its Planmeca Romexis Cloud Service product at this year’s Greater New York Dental Meeting, Planmeca (Booth #4028), which runs from November 29th to December 3.
Planmeca Romexis Cloud service lets dental professionals communicate with colleagues and transfer images and key case information securely, quickly and seamlessly. This brings new possibilities to the dental practice, such as providing access to specialists from remote general practitioners, giving rural dentists the same referral base as any dentist in a large metropolitan area
Pienkowski said today’s dentist practices in a more complex setting—group practices are increasingly common and dental cases are more complex, requiring dentists to use and understand technology. With the emergence of CAD/CAM technology, some dentists are moving to an all-in-one approach to treating patients, bypassing the dental laboratory for certain crowns and restorative treatments.
Other features of the Planmeca Romexis Cloud Service include:
- All treatment plan elements are automatically added, including annotations and measurements
- Virtual patient cases include 2D X-ray images and photos, CBCT volumes and 3D photos
- Images and reports are easily shared with patients
“Even for dentists who have not embraced technology to this extent, progress is forcing many to seek out software that can run all their imaging and integrate with their office hardware and software,” Pienkowski said.
“Romexis greatly simplifies my workflow and the level of services that I provide my patients,” said Gene Antenucci, DDS, a general practitioner from Long Island, N.Y. “I focus on restorative and cosmetic dentistry as well as implants, and because I use cone-beam technology in addition to CAD/CAM technology, I find Romexis indispensable.”
Endodontist Brian Trava DDS, from Hawthorn, N.J. echoes Dr. Antenucci’s sentiment: “Most imaging software is the same from machine to machine,” he said. “Planmeca Romexis software provides me with the versatility of diagnosing, integrating and treatment planning from any screen. It’s time to diagnose outside of the box.”
