red dot award 2013: CEREC Omnicam receives another design award
Sirona, the technology leader in the dental industry, presented the CEREC Omnicam intraoral scanner at the end of 2012 and created a product that is not just technologically outstanding, but also has an award-winning design. After receiving the iF product design award in February 2013, the innovative CEREC Omnicam has now been given the red dot award: product design 2013.
Bensheim/Salzburg. The CEREC Omnicam has managed to come out on top in a particularly competitive environment and has convinced the 37 judges of its design. The jury chose from a total of 4,662 entries – more submissions than ever before. "The winners of the red dot award: product design 2013 are the protagonists of a highly developed design culture and design industry. These days it is becoming more and more difficult to distinguish between well-designed products. It is often only in the details that the special qualities become apparent. However, those product creations that pass the test before the critical eyes of the international red dot jury will not disappear into the crowd and will be able to fend off global competition," says Prof. Dr. Peter Zec, Initiator and CEO of red dot.
Digital impressions of teeth
The CEREC Omnicam is an intraoral camera that enables dentists to take a digital impression of the patient's teeth. The camera captures full-color images without the need for prior coating with powder or spray. Dentists can then use this very precise digital data to design high-quality ceramic dental restorations that fit perfectly.
When design and functionality go hand in hand
PULS Design agency was entrusted with designing the CEREC Omnicam. Managing Director and designer graduate Andreas Ries emphasizes the challenge of having to convey an excellent design quality while meeting high functional and ergonomic requirements. Receiving another award for the CEREC Omnicam is further proof that we were extremely successful in doing this. Dr. Frank Thiel, Director of Development for 3D Measurement Technology at Sirona, also confirmed this: "Combining function and design is a major challenge. We are very happy that we have been so successful with the Omnicam."
The red dot award: product design 2013 ceremony was held in the Aalto Theater in Essen on July 1, 2013. Over 1,200 international guests from the world of design, industry, politics, and media came together and were inspired by the innovative designs and creations. All of the winners are displayed in the red dot design museum and in an online gallery at www.red-dot.de/pd.
