The Amdent US30m is a piezoelectric ultrasonic scaler that is marketed in the United States by DBI Amdent USA. It is a modification of the Amdent US30em with two significant differences. The US30m does not have the endodontic function of the US30em and it does not come with the “Quick-a-Tip” attachments which allow for more rapid changing of the tips. Instead of the “Quick-a-Tip” attachments, the US30m has a conventional handpiece sheath and power line. The external casing is highly polished and is said to be easily disinfected. The control knobs have removable autoclavable silicone covers. The Amdent US30m base unit is 5.5”W x 7.75”D x 2”H. It weighs 3.5 lbs, operates in the range of 24 to 28 KHz, and has power requirements of 220V/50 or 110V/60.
The moderately-priced Amdent US30m is a well-designed and easy to use piezoelectric ultrasonic scaler. The unit is esthetically pleasing, has clear operating instructions, and is easy to operate. The standard tip assortment allows for good adaptation to the teeth and provides good calculus removal. The main unit is easily cleaned and disinfected. All controls and adjustments work well, and a ten-minute training video is available to help clinicians learn to operate the unit.
One evaluator reported that the water adjustment knob was small and inconveniently located near the rear of the device. First time piezoelectric users may face a steep learning curve.
