The NSK Care 3 Plus is an automatic handpiece cleaning/lubrication tabletop unit manufactured by NSK and marketed by Brasseler. It is designed to clean, lubricate, and purge up to three different handpieces simultaneously. Brasseler states the NSK Care 3 can be used for virtually all brands of high-speed, low-speed, and electric handpiece attachments. Brand-specific couplers are required, but most can be purchased through Brasseler. The NSK Care 3 uses NSK maintenance oil and has a readily visible oil-level gauge on the front panel. The unit measures 11” x 14” x 9” and weighs 7.1 kg. It requires a 50-85 psi airline connection, 120/230VAC, and 50/60Hz.
Evaluators found the NSK Care 3 easy to set-up, operate, and integrate into existing dental facilities. They appreciated its reliability and consistency in cleaning and lubricating the handpieces, which reduced the human factor in handpiece maintenance. There were no noted malfunctions of either the NSK Care 3 or processed handpieces during this 4-month evaluation. With a choice of processing times (35, 45, and 50 seconds) the NSK Care 3 provided flexibility while processing up to three handpieces at a time, though many evaluators mentioned they would have preferred the shorter cycle times available with other automatic handpiece processors. The unit handled most manufacturers’ handpieces, though purchasers should confirm processing capability with handpiece manufacturers as well. This unit was very competitively priced.
