The Midmark M3 UltraFast® Automatic Sterilizer is an autoclave that sterilizes unwrapped instruments and handpieces in just 6 minutes and pouched instruments in just over 10, with the touch of a button. The Complete Esthetic Provisional Kit (LD0156)as developed in conjunction with Hollie A. Bryant, DA II, specifically for use by dental assistants for working on provisional restorations. The kit includes four carbides, three polishers and buffs, two diamond discs and a pop-onmandrel.

KOMET’s GSQ bulk-trimming carbide (H257GSQ) is designed to remove the majority of provisional material, while an acrylic S-Cutter™ (H129E) is used for deepening the central fossa. The H138E can quickly create secondary anatomy. Due to its long, pointed shape with a rounded tip, H257REF is well suited for interdental trimming.

A pop-on mandrel (310) is provided allowing the assistant to use a flexible polishing disc (ie, KOMET’s Composite Polishing System discs) on facial surfaces of the anterior provisionals. A double-sided diamond disc (943.100) is for the fine separation of the provisional material, and a flexible, serrated, double-sided diamond disc (946.180) can separate and contour acrylics.

Both the cotton mop (9628.220) and the felt polisher (9629.210) allow the assistant to polish the provisional using a polishing paste. Finally, a yellow microfiber buff (9448.220) provides the provisional with a high shine.

The Programat S1 sintering furnace is a light-weight and compact unit that sinters single unit frameworks made of zirconium oxide materials in as little as 90 minutes (conventional sintering furnaces require five to eight hours). As a result, crowns and bridges with an IPS e.max ZirCAD or other ZrO2 framework can be fabricated in one day.

Additionally, the Programat S1 conserves energy through its “Power Saving Technology” creating a positive impact on production costs, because less time and energy are expended for the process. This efficient and economical sintering process does not jeopardize the high material strength and accuracy of fit of the restoration.

Another feature of the Programat S1 is its easy operation. The user-friendly control panel features a graphic display and membrane sealed keypad for easy programming. The OSD (optical status display) uses different colors to show operating status, which can be seen even from a distance. The Programat S1 also features a compact design and light weight.

Like other furnaces in the Programat line, the S1 is equipped with robust technology, including a removable furnace head for easy maintenance, and a calibration option that enables the sintering temperature to be checked and adjusted at any time. The furnace’s heating muffle technology features a new type of heating element that is specifically designed for intensive everyday use and characterized by a long service life and uniform heat emission. The new 5.25 x 6.5 size Sure-Check Sterilization Pouch is designed for bur blocks and impression trays.  Sure-Check sterilization pouches have internal and external "multi-parameter" indicators that clearly show if the three parameters for sterilization have been met during processing - required temperature for the proper amount of time and contact with saturated steam under pressure (as recommended by CDC infection control guidelines and ISO sterilization standards). 

Sure-Check pouches provides a reliable indication that the required conditions for sterilization have been met as compared to using internal single parameter pouches.  The use of Sure-Check pouches saves money and time because there is no need to purchase separate indicator strips and insert them into the pouches.

Stainless steel bur blocks 9931 and 9933L3 (shown in photo) are designed for simple cleaning, disinfection, sterilization, and storage of dental instruments. Any KOMET friction grip or contra-angle instruments stored in these bur blocks can be cleaned and disinfected either in an instrument and/or ultrasonic bath (in which case the block must be closed), or in the thermo disinfector (in which case the block must be open). The sterilization takes place in the autoclave. The bur blocks' blue silicone plugs hold the instruments tightly in place; the instruments cannot fall out. In refill packs of 8 pieces, the silicone plugs are also available in yellow and red. Block 9931 holds up to 9 instruments and block 9933L3 holds up to 12 instruments.

Developed as an esthetic, functional alternative to gingival surgery, the Amaris Gingiva gingiva-shaded restoration system facilitates individual shade-matching using a combination of a base shade (nature) with three mixable pink opaque shades in white, light and dark. The result is a restoration of the gingiva line that appears natural. Amaris Gingiva allows restoration of exposed cervical areas caused by gingival recession and wedge-shaped defects in the cervical area. The Enhance Flex NST two-disc finishing and polishing system comprises: 1. a finishing disc coated with both traditional aluminum oxide particles along with NST(nanosphere technology) particles (combining rapid gross removal and final contouring into a single step and 2. a polishing disc coated with 100% NST particles (combining polishing and high gloss luster into a single step).

The Zimmer Sinus Lift Balloon is designed to simplify vertical sinus elevation and imporve results when performing a traditional sinus lift procedure. The balloon prevents the Schneiderian membrane from tearing, which can significantly disrupt an implant case.

The balloon instrument is also well-suited for effectively measuring the required bone grafting material. For example, 1cc of saline, which is used to inflate the balloon, is equal to 1cc of grafting material.

The XIOSPlus intraoral sensor system provides flexibility of capturing quality digital X-rays by using either an Ethernet or USB module. With Sirona’s intuitive SIDEXIS XG software, practitioners can view digital X-rays directly on any computer monitor or the office network without license fees.

The Ethernet (wall module) is easy to integrate into any network. Using its large-sized multicolor display, the user can confirm patient information prior to taking the image. Various LCD colors indicate the current operational status. The wall module also allows the user to plug in two sensors simultaneously, so that the right sensor is always close at hand. The built-in sensor holders also reduce clutter and minimize the risk of damage to the sensors.

The USB module can be connected to any PC as a true “plug-and-play” component, allowing sensors to be used anywhere they are needed. The USB module also features LED indicators of system status.

The MaxilloPrep Spread-Condense system (Kit 4596) comprises titanium Spread-Condense screws for bone spreading and condensation. The screw’s shape is initially cylindrical turning after 5 mm into a tapered shape with threaded flanks (up to a total length of 15 mm), exerting effective spreading and condensing pressure on the bone.

Depth marks placed in intervals of 2 mm allow penetration depths to be visually controlled at all times starting at 8 mm from the tip of the screws. Depth marks are easily recognizable because the surface’s lasered color which alternates between light and dark every 2 mm. The screws rounded ends help protect from inadvertent perforations.

Using a hand wrench, Spread-Condense screws are inserted into a small pilot hole, prepared by a stainless-steel drill (210L16). The screws are then screwed in and out in ascending order until the required target size is reached, ensuring optimum primary stability of the subsequently inserted implant. The MaxilloPrep Spread-Condense screws can also be used for bone condensing treatments of a spongy bone structure.

The screws are available in 5 sizes; sizes 4 and 5 also come with a triangular cross-section for condensation and expansion of extremely hard bones. Because all screws are made of pure titanium, they are designed for multiple uses.

The HELIODENTPLUS is a compact, ultra-light, intraoral X-ray generator for film-based and digital imaging. The user can switch from the film-based to the digital mode with the touch of a button. The HELIODENTPLUS incorporates a robust arm assembly to fit any operatory; various arm lengths provide easy, stable positioning for taking any intraoral image. The various controller options also allow for flexible installation requirements. The vertical mount can be incorporated in pass-through and central cabinet installations. Spectra is a lightweight, ergonomic, handheld non-invasive digital imaging instrument that aids the dentist in detecting caries visually. Spectra operates using fluorescence technology. LED's project high-energy light with a wavelength of 405 nanometers onto the tooth surface causing cariogenic bacteria to fluoresce red. In contrast, healthy enamel fluoresces green. The captured data is sent to the computer and the live image is presented on the monitor. Images can be saved to the patient record for future reference. With Spectra, the dentist can identify the exact location of potential carious lesions on tooth surfaces.

Bifix SE self-adhesive resin cement incorporates the self-bond nano technology of Futurabond DC with the cement engineering of Bifix QM in a new 4:1 mixing ratio. The 4:1 ratio allows the use of an initiator system to engineer a catalyst that is very stable, even without refrigeration. The clinical benefits are high bond strength, especially on zirconia-based (20MPa) and ceramic based (35 MPa) restorations and low water solubility.

OS (oscillating segment) Discs are designed for safe, efficient interproximal enamel reduction. OS Discs are more effective than manual enamel reduction with lower risk of injuring the soft tissue. OS Discs allow enough vision for the user without the need of a disc guard and provide optimal chip removal.

OS Discs are 60-degree segmented with a radius of only 1.4 cm and a pivoting angle of 30 degrees, allowing access into tight spaces with excellent user control. OS Discs allow the user to correct minor tooth-size discrepancies, eliminate crowding, allowing tooth movement, broaden interproximal contact areas, and improve orthodontic outcomes such as Invisalign® (Align Technology, Inc) procedures. There are 15 different OS Discs--nine with fine-grit diamonds and six with medium-grit diamonds. Developed to treat incipient caries, Icon is a caries infiltrant that incorporates micro-invasive technology to fill, reinforce, and stabilize demineralized enamel without drilling or sacrificing healthy tooth structure.

Bridging the gap between prevention (fluoride therapy) and caries restoration, Icon can be used to treat smooth surface and proximal carious lesions up to the first third of dentin (D-1). In a single patient visit, Icon can arrest the progression of early enamel lesions and remove white spot lesions.

Icon offers a simple alternative to the “wait and see” approach, enabling immediate treatment without unnecessary loss of healthy tooth structure. Icon prevents lesion progression and increases life expectancy for the tooth. Icon also provides a highly esthetic alternative to microabrasion and other restorative treatments for cariogenic white spot lesions; white spot lesions infiltrated by Icon take on the appearance of the surrounding healthy enamel.

Use of Icon is described as simple and user-friendly: After isolating the tooth with rubber dam and placing wedges to separate the teeth, the tooth surface is prepared with a 15% HCL gel to open the pore system of the lesion body. Next, the surface is rinsed, dried with ethanol, and further dried with air. The Icon Infiltrant resin, which has a high penetration coefficient, is applied onto the lesion, excess material is removed, and the material is light cured. The manufacturer recommends applying a second layer of the infiltrant, followed by additional light curing.

Icon will be available in the US by September 2009 in Proximal and Smooth Surface kits. The Icon kits provide everything necessary for treatment except the rubber dam, including specially designed dental wedges, patented perforated applicator tips for the materials, individual syringes filled with Icon-Etch, Icon-Dry (ethanol), Icon-Infiltrant, and both written and diagrammatic instructions. All syringes come in a special screw-type applicator to ensure the materials are gently and slowly extruded onto the tooth.

Icon Proximal is available in a Mini-kit with two treatment units, or a package of seven units. Each proximal treatment unit contains enough material for two proximal lesions. The Icon Smooth Surface Mini-kit includes two treatment units and is also available in packages of seven units, enough material for two or three smooth surface lesions per unit.

AdheSE One F, a self-etching, single-component adhesive for use with direct restorations, contains an added source of fluoride that enables fluoride ions to be released from the material. Additionally, this easy-to-use adhesive demonstrates high bond strength on both dentin and enamel, while offering the advantage of “room temperature” storage.

The VivaPen delivery system provides convenient, economical application. The VivaPen’s “click” mechanism and “snap-on flocked” cannula tips allow precise, on-the-spot dispsensing; only the desired amount of adhesive is dispensed.

The EASYCUT is designed to cut gutta percha simply, predictably, and safely.

Place the EASYCUT into the pulp chamber in the patient’s mouth when it is cold. As soon as it is correctly positioned, simply press the operating button and the tip heats to the correct temperature within a fraction of a second. As soon as the gutta percha has been cut (which takes 1–3 seconds), releasing the operating button and the tip cools immediately, the EASYCUT can be safely removed cold from the patient’s mouth.

MaxilloPrep stainless-steel instruments are designed for the safe and effective removal of bone and soft tissue during bone grafting and expansion procedures. The three instruments are:

Trepan burs (TRT.205.045/055/065) are designed for the removal of bone blocks. With its proprietary blade configuration, its cutting teeth are arranged in pairs, allowing a non-traumatic treatment for optimal results. Large perforations within its working parts allow for an unobstructed view of the site and facilitate the removal of bone cylinders. Depth marks around the periphery allow exact determination of preparation depth.

Congruent Centering burs (TRC.205.045/055/065) precede the trepan burs and allow exact positioning and controlled guidance. Optimal centering and easy bone penetration is due to its triangular tip. And because of its staggered (inclined) front toothing, centering burs provide a non-traumatic treatment and the safe creation of a circular guide groove. The bore holes in its working part allow an unobstructed view onto the operative site.

The bone chip extractor (9126.204.042/060) is designed with a self-centering tip ensuring correct positioning at the operative site. This rotary extractor allows precise, yet gentle removal of bone chips which can be collected and evacuated using any standard bone filter.

MaxilloPrep instruments are available in both a stainless-steel starter kit (Kit 4571, containing one of each instrument) or a complete kit (Kit 4572, containing all eight instruments, treatment tray and container for sterilization).

Designed to rapidly and efficiently remove zirconium-oxide restorations, the 4ZR diamond crown cutter features diamond particles that are embedded in a special bonding leading to improved substance removal and longer service life.

The 4ZR.314.012 is designed with a golden, stainless-steel shank and a white band making it easily identifiable. With a grit size of 125-µm, it is recommended that dentists use the 4ZR at a speed of 160,000 rpm in the red contra-angle because the higher torque is recommended for cutting zirconia.

The VistaPure system produces two grades of water — distilled-quality water for autoclaves and ultra filtered non-corrosive water for bottles used with dental delivery systems.

The first stage is a prefilter that removes sediment, chlorine, chloramines, trihalomethanes and other contaminants by physical filtration, absorption and adsorption.

Next is the hyper filtration stage where pressure forces the water through a semi permeable membrane, removing contaminants at the molecular level. Impurities such as nitrates, sulfates, heavy metals, sodium, calcium and approximately 95% of other water contaminants are removed and rinsed away from the membrane and down the drain.

The water is then sent to a cartridge that contains both cationic and anionic resins for removing any remaining contaminants by a deionization process.

The final stage is a polishing filter. The finished water is then sent to a 2.7 gallon storage reservoir where it is easily dispensed for use.

Previously, the Crown Prepping Carbides were only offered in three sizes: the flat-ended bur H837KRU (2 sizes) designed for shoulder preps; and the round-ended bur H881U (1 size) which is more suited to create chamfer preps. Additional sizes and shapes are H856U.016, H379U.023, H846KRU.014/016, H847KRU.014/016, H878KU.014/016 and H881U.012/014/016. Lava Zirconia now can be used to fabricate custom-designed implant abutments that can be custom-designed for the individual patient.

Implant abutments made from Lava zirconia are compatible with a wide variety of implant systems, allowing dentists to provide patients with a highly esthetic option while still utilizing the underlying implant systems with which they are familiar. To create the abutment, Lava zirconia is cemented to a prefabricated titanium abutment interface; the metal-to-metal connection between the screw and abutment means the screw does not torque directly into the zirconia material. This allows dentists to follow standard recommendations for torque pressures on the screw and abutment.

For dentists, the precision technology used to manufacture the abutment helps minimize manual adjustments in the office. Lava zirconia for implant abutments comes in the same eight shades as are offered for Lava™ Crowns, meaning dentists can select a matching abutment and crown to create the most natural-looking restoration.

In the laboratory, time spent grinding down a stock abutment to fit properly is minimized or eliminated. A narrow airway reading on the Pharyngometer correlates to higher Apnea Hypopnea Index's once the person is diagnosed. The Eccovision Acoustic Pharyngometer allows users to quickly and easily measure a patients pharyngeal airway size and stability from the Oral Pharyngeal Junction to the Glottis. Developed in conjunction with Dr. George Priest of Hilton Head, South Carolina, the Priest Prep Kit LD 0146 contains eight burs for easy, efficient crown, bridge and veneer preparation.

Three of the instruments are fast-grinding tapered chamfer turbo diamonds in three widths (T5856.314.018, 016 and 014). They are used for axial preparation for crowns, bridges and veneers, and for the occlusal reduction of posterior teeth. For larger teeth or facial reduction, the wider burs are ideal. For getting into proximal regions, or for smaller teeth like maxillary lateral incisors or mandibular anterior teeth, the small diameter bur is more conservative, especially for veneer preparations.

The next three burs are finishing diamonds that match the sizes of the turbo series (8856.314.018, 016 and 014) and are used for preparation refining.

The final two burs are coarse and fine grit football-shaped diamonds for the palatal reduction of anterior teeth (6379.314.023 and 8379.314.023).

They are supplied in an autoclavable bur block with markings for easy identification.

The Nikon D90 features a small resolution bump (12.3 MP vs 10.2MP), a large, high-resolution LCD screen (3.0in vs 2.5in), Live View (use the LCD as a viewfinder), and sensor cleaning system, Additionally, it offers the ability to shoot HD quality (720p) video clips, useful for creating videos of procedures through microscopes.

The ZAPD (Zirconium Abutment Preparation Diamond) Kit LD 0118 is designed to specifically prepare zirconium implant abutments. Because margins in some selected zirconium-custom abutments do not have enough incisal or occlusal clearance, a technician or dentist can now easily modify the abutments themselves with the burs provided in this easy-to-use kit.

The kit contains a series of five burs. There are two tapered burs (ZR850.314.016 medium grit and ZR8850.314.016 fine grit) for refining axial walls. Two other burs (ZR6881.314.016 and ZR6881.314.012) are wide and narrow coarse grit diamonds for establishing a chamfer margin that follows the soft-tissue scallop. The ZR6379.314.023 football-shaped diamond bur is used for palatal or lingual reduction for occlusal clearance.

Note: these burs should be used with water coolant, either on an implant lab holder or intraorally.

These burs are also useful for removing zirconium core crowns.

It is completely programmable for all members of the dental team in the practice. For example, if a specific staff member is needed in exam room #3 to take a x-ray, simply scroll through the staff list for the desired staff member, enter the room number, enter the action needed, and hit “OK”. The page is sent within one second. The staff member has the option to receive the page silently, vibrating, audibility, or a combination.

Other conveniences include a countdown timer. When not in use, the device shows the current time. Additionally, the iPager with Intel-i-page automatically learns individuals' paging habits and presents the most frequently paged staff member.

KOMET USA’s Composite Polishing System (Kit 4564) is comprised of several disposable polishers designed for creating smooth and natural looking composite restorations.

Developed in cooperation with PD Dr. M. Oliver Ahlers, the Composite Polishing System includes polishing discs, polishing strips and a pop-on mandrel. Composites can be polished to high shine in just four steps using super-coarse, medium, fine and ultra-fine polishers.

The polishing discs come in 2 sizes (9 and 13 mm). The super-coarse, black disc is single-sided, and the other discs (blue, red and white) have a honeycomb design with aluminum-oxide coating on both sides. This double-sided coating allows pulling and pushing movements without time-consuming changeover. The discs are mounted onto the pop-on mandrel by applying light pressure until the user hears a click. The click indicates to the user that the disc is securely locked into place and will work practically without vibrations.

Discs and strips are disposable, while the mandrel (310.204) is designed for multiple uses, and can therefore be disinfected and sterilized.

The mandrel is completely covered by the discs, which prevents discoloration and damage to the restoration. The strips’ 3-in-1 principle means that three grit sizes (medium to ultra-fine) are arranged in succession on one strip.

The CariScreen Caries Susceptibility Test is a simple 1-minute chair-side bacterial test for assessing patients’ caries risk. The CariScreen utilizes ATP bioluminescence technology to detect the levels of acid-producing, decay-causing bacteria residing in an individual’s plaque. Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is the energy molecule found in all cells. When this ATP is brought into contact with the liquid-stable, bioluminescence enzymes in the CariScreen Swab, light is emitted in direct proportion to the amount of ATP present. The CariScreen Meter measures the amount of light generated in this reaction and provides information about the potential levels of cariogenic bacteria present in the biofilm. The reading appears on the CariScreen Meter as a number of Relative Light Units (RLU’s) which corresponds to a healthy versus a cariogenic biofilm.

The testing involves a quick, painless swab of patients’ plaque a reading is available within 15 seconds as to whether there is a predominance of acidic bacteria present in their biofilm. Readings below 1500 RLU’s generally correspond to a patient at low risk for decay while above 1500 RLU’s represent those patients needing caries management efforts. The test does qualify under the CDT 7 code, D0425 for Caries Susceptibility Testing.

Supplied in an auto-mix dual syringe, CRplus zinc oxide eugenol cement is formulated to deliver sufficient retention to keep the prosthesis in place and maintain a tight marginal seal until the patient's next appointment.

CRplus is specially formulated for use where there is adequate retention and the preparations have long, parallel walls. The inclusion of eugenol calms irritated pulpal tissue, while the auto-mix dual syringe assures a perfect mix and easy dispensation. Working time is 90 seconds, with a maximum of five minutes for setting. The low film thickness (less than 15 microns) makes it easy to completely seat the prosthesis.
