Amaris Gingiva Gingiva-Shaded Restoration System from VOCO America, Inc. Amaris Gingiva Gingiva-Shaded Restoration System
VOCO America, Inc.

Developed as an esthetic, functional alternative to gingival surgery, the Amaris Gingiva gingiva-shaded restoration system facilitates individual shade-matching using a combination of a base shade (nature) with three mixable pink opaque shades in white, light and dark. The result is a restoration of the gingiva line that appears natural. Amaris Gingiva allows restoration of exposed cervical areas caused by gingival recession and wedge-shaped defects in the cervical area. Amaris Gingiva overcomes the deficit of modern composites ending at the cervical boundary. This new material permits the reconstruction of the "red-white" boundary with a predictable result.

Reconstruction with gingiva-shaded composite also provides therapeutic measures after muco-gingival surgery. In addition, the 'black holes" induced by the loss of interdental papillae as a consequence of periodontitis or gingival recession can be quickly and easily treated with Amaris Gingiva to provide an aesthetic restoration. Amaris Gingiva can also be used to significantly extend the lifespan of in situ crowns with visible and exposed edges caused by natural gingival shrinkage. Amaris Gingiva is based on state of the art nano hybrid technology. A 80% filler content ensures excellent wear resistance and low shrinkage. Clinicians favor its handling properties like high gloss polishibility and lack of slumping as well as the new non-dripping, non-running NDT® syringe used for the opaquer shades.

Identafi 3000 ultra Oral Cancer Screening System from Trimira LLC Identafi 3000 ultra Oral Cancer Screening System
Trimira LLC

The Identafi™ 3000 ultra is an upgraded version of the original small, cordless, handheld oral cancer screening device. The ultra features enhancements such as nickel-plating, double the auto-fluorescent power, and both hardware and software upgrades. The device uses a three-wavelength optical illumination and visualization system to allow dental professionals to catch early cancers not visible to the naked eye.

The Identafi 3000 ultra features the same proprietary, patented multi-spectral light wavelengths as the popular Identafi 3000. A study published in the May 2009 issue of Cancer Prevention Research found that the excitation wavelength delivered by the Identafi 3000 (and Identafi 3000 ultra) is optimal for discriminating between neoplastic and non-neoplastic lesions. New diodes deliver twice the auto-fluorescent power to further improve visualization.

The Identafi 3000 ultra uses three different wavelengths of light to excite oral tissue in distinct and unique ways. Biochemical changes can be observed with fluorescence, while morphological changes can be observed with reflectance. This multiple wavelength technology identifies abnormal tissue with more accuracy than a single color wavelength.

Nickel plating has been added to the Identafi 3000 ultra to boost electrical conductivity, improve durability, and provide a smoother feel. Trimira has also made hardware and software upgrades to maximize the device’s performance.

MaxilloPrep Spread-Condense System from KOMET USA LLC MaxilloPrep Spread-Condense System
KOMET USA LLC

The MaxilloPrep Spread-Condense system (Kit 4596) comprises titanium Spread-Condense screws for bone spreading and condensation. The screw’s shape is initially cylindrical turning after 5 mm into a tapered shape with threaded flanks (up to a total length of 15 mm), exerting effective spreading and condensing pressure on the bone.

Depth marks placed in intervals of 2 mm allow penetration depths to be visually controlled at all times starting at 8 mm from the tip of the screws. Depth marks are easily recognizable because the surface’s lasered color which alternates between light and dark every 2 mm. The screws rounded ends help protect from inadvertent perforations.

Using a hand wrench, Spread-Condense screws are inserted into a small pilot hole, prepared by a stainless-steel drill (210L16). The screws are then screwed in and out in ascending order until the required target size is reached, ensuring optimum primary stability of the subsequently inserted implant. The MaxilloPrep Spread-Condense screws can also be used for bone condensing treatments of a spongy bone structure.

The screws are available in 5 sizes; sizes 4 and 5 also come with a triangular cross-section for condensation and expansion of extremely hard bones. Because all screws are made of pure titanium, they are designed for multiple uses.

Icon Incipient Caries Treatment from DMG America Icon Incipient Caries Treatment
DMG America

Developed to treat incipient caries, Icon is a caries infiltrant that incorporates micro-invasive technology to fill, reinforce, and stabilize demineralized enamel without drilling or sacrificing healthy tooth structure.

Bridging the gap between prevention (fluoride therapy) and caries restoration, Icon can be used to treat smooth surface and proximal carious lesions up to the first third of dentin (D-1). In a single patient visit, Icon can arrest the progression of early enamel lesions and remove white spot lesions.

Icon offers a simple alternative to the “wait and see” approach, enabling immediate treatment without unnecessary loss of healthy tooth structure. Icon prevents lesion progression and increases life expectancy for the tooth. Icon also provides a highly esthetic alternative to microabrasion and other restorative treatments for cariogenic white spot lesions; white spot lesions infiltrated by Icon take on the appearance of the surrounding healthy enamel.

Use of Icon is described as simple and user-friendly: After isolating the tooth with rubber dam and placing wedges to separate the teeth, the tooth surface is prepared with a 15% HCL gel to open the pore system of the lesion body. Next, the surface is rinsed, dried with ethanol, and further dried with air. The Icon Infiltrant resin, which has a high penetration coefficient, is applied onto the lesion, excess material is removed, and the material is light cured. The manufacturer recommends applying a second layer of the infiltrant, followed by additional light curing.

Icon will be available in the US by September 2009 in Proximal and Smooth Surface kits. The Icon kits provide everything necessary for treatment except the rubber dam, including specially designed dental wedges, patented perforated applicator tips for the materials, individual syringes filled with Icon-Etch, Icon-Dry (ethanol), Icon-Infiltrant, and both written and diagrammatic instructions. All syringes come in a special screw-type applicator to ensure the materials are gently and slowly extruded onto the tooth.

Icon Proximal is available in a Mini-kit with two treatment units, or a package of seven units. Each proximal treatment unit contains enough material for two proximal lesions. The Icon Smooth Surface Mini-kit includes two treatment units and is also available in packages of seven units, enough material for two or three smooth surface lesions per unit.

VISTAPure Distilled-Quality Water System from Pelton & Crane VISTAPure Distilled-Quality Water System
Pelton & Crane

The VistaPure system produces two grades of water — distilled-quality water for autoclaves and ultra filtered non-corrosive water for bottles used with dental delivery systems.

The first stage is a prefilter that removes sediment, chlorine, chloramines, trihalomethanes and other contaminants by physical filtration, absorption and adsorption.

Next is the hyper filtration stage where pressure forces the water through a semi permeable membrane, removing contaminants at the molecular level. Impurities such as nitrates, sulfates, heavy metals, sodium, calcium and approximately 95% of other water contaminants are removed and rinsed away from the membrane and down the drain.

The water is then sent to a cartridge that contains both cationic and anionic resins for removing any remaining contaminants by a deionization process.

The final stage is a polishing filter. The finished water is then sent to a 2.7 gallon storage reservoir where it is easily dispensed for use.

The system is a standard feature of Solaris Sterilzation Centers.

Master 3DS Cone Beam Imaging System from E-WOO Technology USA Inc. Master 3DS Cone Beam Imaging System
E-WOO Technology USA Inc.

Designed for use in both private practice and institutional dental care facilities, the Master 3DS cone beam imaging system offers a new GPU solution--3D reconstruction time improved to less than 35 seconds with even less 3D CT scan time: 15 seconds for normal and 24 seconds for high def.

The field-of-view (FOV) selection provision enables the user to select the optimum FOV size (20x19/20x15 cm, 16x10 cm, 16 x 7 cm) and limits the radiation dosage to only the necessary level for examination contained to the region of interest. For example, the FOV size of 20 x 19cm captures a comprehensive 3D view of the entire oral and maxillofacial anatomy including the TMJ, sinus, and airways on a single 360 degree scan whereas the FOV of 16 x 7cm would capture both mandibular condyle and upper and lower occlusion area of oral anatomy.

EzImplant, the dynamic and efficient 3D image solution, offers comprehensive information for precise assessments, diagnosis, and treatment plans by using the auxiliary functions such as measuring, canal tracing, cross-sectional viewing and implant simulation.

The Master 3D series provides a selection of voxel sizes which improves the overall image resolution. The smaller voxel size (0.164mm) offers the highest image quality while normal voxel sizes (0.3, 0.4mm) are suitable for diagnostic images with less reconstruction time and smaller file size.

With the new Master 3DS, there are 3 types of patient positioning – standing, seated (optional chair), and wheel-chair-confined patient accessibility.

D.T. Light Post Illusion X-RO from Bisco, Inc. D.T. Light Post Illusion X-RO
Bisco, Inc.

D.T. LIGHT-POST ILLUSION X-RO esthetic posts feature color-on-command technology along with high strength and radiopacity. With color-on-command technology, the intrinsic color of the post disappears when seated allowing it to blend into the natural dentition. If retreatment or removal is ever required, the post will reappear on command by simply spraying cool water.

In addition, the posts incorporate a new proprietary fiber (developed by RTD France) which is enhanced with radiopacifiers to enhance clinical performance. The fibers utilize a silane coupling agent that increases the bond between the fiber and the epoxy matrix increasing flexural strength.

The D.T. LIGHT-POST ILLUSION X-RO exhibits flexural strengths exceeding that of metal posts but with a modulus of elasticity similar to dentin. The low modulus significantly reduces stress transferred to the root and eliminates root fractures. This post will intimately bond to the tooth structure and core build-up composite while the passive taper design respects morphology and conserves tooth structure.

The D.T. LIGHT-POST ILLUSION X-RO is available in 4 sizes, each with dual tapers, accommodating a variety of clinical situations. The D.T. LIGHT-POST ILLUSION X-RO comes with a 6-year warranty (only available in the U.S. market). To ensure successful placement, use BISCO certified components sold in our system kits.

Previously, the Crown Prepping Carbides were only offered in three sizes: the flat-ended bur H837KRU (2 sizes) designed for shoulder preps; and the round-ended bur H881U (1 size) which is more suited to create chamfer preps. Additional sizes and shapes are H856U.016, H379U.023, H846KRU.014/016, H847KRU.014/016, H878KU.014/016 and H881U.012/014/016. This flexibility allows dentists who perform more traditional crown preparations the instruments they need to accomplish a more successful procedure.

The Crown Prepping Carbides enable precise and controlled tooth reduction while providing a finished surface comparable to that achieved by using a diamond finisher. Designed in conjunction with Donald J. Alexander, DDS, of Jacksonville, FL, Crown Prepping Carbides provide real quick and smooth chatter-free cut patterns.

The residual finish allows for both gross and finish work to be accomplished using the same instrument. Also, the tips were engineered to match up precisely with the required chamfer or shoulder prep design depending on the desired material. The instruments allow for a fast and precise controlled tooth reduction resulting in a finished surface much better than one completed with a super coarse diamond instrument. Their use eliminates the need for an additional finishing instrument.

Lava Zirconia for Implant Abutments from 3M™ ESPE™ Lava Zirconia for Implant Abutments
3M™ ESPE™

Lava Zirconia now can be used to fabricate custom-designed implant abutments that can be custom-designed for the individual patient.

Implant abutments made from Lava zirconia are compatible with a wide variety of implant systems, allowing dentists to provide patients with a highly esthetic option while still utilizing the underlying implant systems with which they are familiar. To create the abutment, Lava zirconia is cemented to a prefabricated titanium abutment interface; the metal-to-metal connection between the screw and abutment means the screw does not torque directly into the zirconia material. This allows dentists to follow standard recommendations for torque pressures on the screw and abutment.

For dentists, the precision technology used to manufacture the abutment helps minimize manual adjustments in the office. Lava zirconia for implant abutments comes in the same eight shades as are offered for Lava™ Crowns, meaning dentists can select a matching abutment and crown to create the most natural-looking restoration.

In the laboratory, time spent grinding down a stock abutment to fit properly is minimized or eliminated. Because the abutment is tailored for the individual patient dentition, the technician can design the abutment based on both the implant and adjacent teeth, allowing for proper tissue management and a better esthetic outcome.

Lava zirconia for implant abutments is available through any dental laboratory via use of a 3M ESPE Authorized Lava™ Manufacturing Center (ALMC) or Lava™ Digital Center (ALDC).

Vanish XT Varnish from 3M™ ESPE™ Vanish XT Varnish
3M™ ESPE™

Vanish™ XT Extended Contact Varnish is a site-specific, light-cured durable coating that provides an immediate layer of protection to relieve dentinal hypersensitivity. It is particularly helpful for protecting exposed, sensitive root surfaces, especially newly cleaned surfaces following scaling & root planing.

The varnish remains on the tooth for six months or longer and is moisture tolerant, eliminating the need to dry or pre-treat the root surface. Its use requires no rubber dam. Offering fluoride, calcium and phosphate release, the resin-modified glass ionomer formulation significantly reduces dentin permeability by occluding dentinal tubules in-office for immediate pain relief. Vanish XT also protects the tooth surface from acid attack.

In vitro tests conducted with Vanish XT demonstrate that the coating:

• Creates a barrier against demineralization and acid erosion
• Provides protection beyond the coating
• Helps repair demineralized enamel adjacent to the coating by fluoride toothpaste

Panasil Initial Contact Impression Material
Kettenbach LP

Because of its unique initial hydrophilicity, Panasil® initial contact “wash” impression materials can immediately overcome any remaining moisture in the mouth, resulting in an exact impression every time, even in situations with a deep sulcus or a moist environment. Panasil initial contact is highly thixotropic, with outstanding flow properties and a short intra-oral setting time. Because of its outstanding flow properties, Panasil® initial contact will enter narrow gaps and does not slump or drip off the tooth into the oral cavity.

Panasil® initial contact is available in three viscosities – X-light (very low viscosity), light (low viscosity) and regular (medium viscosity). Panasil® initial contact X-light flows evenly into extremely tight crevices and, during two-step putty-wash impressions, forms only a thin layer on the preliminary impression material. The even higher thixotropy of Panasil® initial contact light is often used for one-step impression techniques. All three viscosities will be available in a fast set.

All three Panasil® initial contact viscosities have a total working time of 1 minute, 30 seconds and an intra-oral setting time of 2 minutes, 30 seconds. When the fast set is introduced, it will shave 30 seconds off both the total working and the intra-oral setting times. All materials are available in the following delivery units: 2 × 50 mL with 12 mixing tips and 12 × 50 mL with 72 mixing tips.

The new design also provides for additional suction capacity within the bite block itself, assuring saliva does not pool behind the mouthpiece.

The mouthpiece features an expanded shape of the tongue retractor for better control of the tongue and a better fit in the patient’s mouth; an expanded shape of the cheek shield for improved suction that goes deeper into the vestibule; and additional suction capacity within the bite block itself, to make certain that saliva doesn’t pool behind the mouthpiece.

Additionally, the mouthpiece sleeve is slightly larger so that it fits on to the Isolite i2 dry — field illuminator control head more easily (reducing the need for Isolite Mouthpiece Lubricant to attach the mouthpiece to the control head).

With the addition of the Medium DV mouthpiece to its product line-up, Isolite Systems now makes available five distinct mouthpieces which are designed to fit patients varying in size — from small children to large adults.

3M™ ESPE™

Available for professional dispensing only, Clinpro 5000 1.1% Sodium Fluoride Anti-Cavity Toothpaste contains a tri-calcium phosphate ingredient; it contains fluoride as well as calcium and phosphate, which are components naturally found in saliva. The tooth naturally absorbs these components, helping to prevent the initiation and further progression of demineralization and allowing remineralization to occur.

The toothpaste offers a wide range of benefits:

  • Strengthens teeth better than leading brands
  • Reverses white spots better than leading brands
  • Delivers more fluoride to the tooth than other tested leading brands

Multilink Automix “Easy Multilink Automix “Easy" Luting Cement
Ivoclar Vivadent Inc.

Multilink Automix “Easy" is an “Easy Clean-Up” formulation of the self-curing luting composite with a light-curing option; it offers extended clean-up time for clinicians who prefer to pre-polymerize excess material with a dental curing light. To use the new Multilink Automix “Easy Clean-Up” formulation and “Quarter Technique” to remove excess cement, simply light-cure excess material for 2 to 4 seconds per quarter surface (ie, mesio-oral, disto-oral, mesio-buccal, disto-buccal); this causes the excess cement to obtain a gel-like consistency so that it can be easily removed with a scaler.

Incorporating proprietary hydrolytically stable phosphoric acids (acidic monomers), the cement exhibitits high immediate bond strengths; efficient, durable adhesion; good marginal adaptation and effective sealing of the dentin; uncomplicated application technique; and an ability to cement restorations made from metal, metal-ceramic, all-ceramic, and composite materials.

Multilink Automix continues to be ideal for cases that require fast and reliable self-curing (chemical curing) and/or do not allow cementation to be completed with light-curing due to restricted access to light (eg, oxide ceramics).

Eccovision Sleep Disorder Diagnostic Aid from Sleep Group Solutions Eccovision Sleep Disorder Diagnostic Aid
Sleep Group Solutions

Intended for patient screening prior to sleep disorder diagnosis, Eccovision device uses acoustic reflection technology to accurately map out the size, structure and collapsibility of the oral and nasal airway.

A narrow airway reading on the Pharyngometer correlates to higher Apnea Hypopnea Index's once the person is diagnosed. After diagnosis the pharyngometer helps to show us how the airway changes in repsonse to mandibular advancement. Data from Pharyngometer & Rhinometer tests is displayed on an easy-to-read graph.

The Eccovision Acoustic Pharyngometer allows users to quickly and easily measure a patients pharyngeal airway size and stability from the Oral Pharyngeal Junction to the Glottis. The Pharyngometer graphically displays the relationship between the cross-sectional area of the airway and distance down the airway in centimeters. Studies have shown a clear relationship between the existence of OSA and a narrow, collapsible, airway. The test is minimally invasive and takes 2-5 minutes to complete.

The Eccovision® Acoustic Rhinometer allows for quick and easy measurements of nasal patency. It clearly identifies the location and severity of any obstruction in the airway. The test is completely non-invasive and takes 30 seconds to complete.

Priest Prep Kit Crown/Bridge/Veneer Preparation Instruments from KOMET USA LLC Priest Prep Kit Crown/Bridge/Veneer Preparation Instruments
KOMET USA LLC

Developed in conjunction with Dr. George Priest of Hilton Head, South Carolina, the Priest Prep Kit LD 0146 contains eight burs for easy, efficient crown, bridge and veneer preparation.

Three of the instruments are fast-grinding tapered chamfer turbo diamonds in three widths (T5856.314.018, 016 and 014). They are used for axial preparation for crowns, bridges and veneers, and for the occlusal reduction of posterior teeth. For larger teeth or facial reduction, the wider burs are ideal. For getting into proximal regions, or for smaller teeth like maxillary lateral incisors or mandibular anterior teeth, the small diameter bur is more conservative, especially for veneer preparations.

The next three burs are finishing diamonds that match the sizes of the turbo series (8856.314.018, 016 and 014) and are used for preparation refining.

The final two burs are coarse and fine grit football-shaped diamonds for the palatal reduction of anterior teeth (6379.314.023 and 8379.314.023).

They are supplied in an autoclavable bur block with markings for easy identification.

Composite Polishing System Kit 4564 from KOMET USA LLC Composite Polishing System Kit 4564
    KOMET USA LLC

KOMET USA’s Composite Polishing System (Kit 4564) is comprised of several disposable polishers designed for creating smooth and natural looking composite restorations.

Developed in cooperation with PD Dr. M. Oliver Ahlers, the Composite Polishing System includes polishing discs, polishing strips and a pop-on mandrel. Composites can be polished to high shine in just four steps using super-coarse, medium, fine and ultra-fine polishers.

The polishing discs come in 2 sizes (9 and 13 mm). The super-coarse, black disc is single-sided, and the other discs (blue, red and white) have a honeycomb design with aluminum-oxide coating on both sides. This double-sided coating allows pulling and pushing movements without time-consuming changeover. The discs are mounted onto the pop-on mandrel by applying light pressure until the user hears a click. The click indicates to the user that the disc is securely locked into place and will work practically without vibrations.

Discs and strips are disposable, while the mandrel (310.204) is designed for multiple uses, and can therefore be disinfected and sterilized.

The mandrel is completely covered by the discs, which prevents discoloration and damage to the restoration. The strips’ 3-in-1 principle means that three grit sizes (medium to ultra-fine) are arranged in succession on one strip.

CariScreen Caries Susceptibility Test from Oral BioTech CariScreen Caries Susceptibility Test
    Oral BioTech

The CariScreen Caries Susceptibility Test is a simple 1-minute chair-side bacterial test for assessing patients’ caries risk. The CariScreen utilizes ATP bioluminescence technology to detect the levels of acid-producing, decay-causing bacteria residing in an individual’s plaque. Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is the energy molecule found in all cells. When this ATP is brought into contact with the liquid-stable, bioluminescence enzymes in the CariScreen Swab, light is emitted in direct proportion to the amount of ATP present. The CariScreen Meter measures the amount of light generated in this reaction and provides information about the potential levels of cariogenic bacteria present in the biofilm. The reading appears on the CariScreen Meter as a number of Relative Light Units (RLU’s) which corresponds to a healthy versus a cariogenic biofilm.

The testing involves a quick, painless swab of patients’ plaque a reading is available within 15 seconds as to whether there is a predominance of acidic bacteria present in their biofilm. Readings below 1500 RLU’s generally correspond to a patient at low risk for decay while above 1500 RLU’s represent those patients needing caries management efforts. The test does qualify under the CDT 7 code, D0425 for Caries Susceptibility Testing.

Bioclear Matrix System from Bioclear Bioclear Matrix System
    Bioclear

The Bioclear Matrix System is designed as an alternative to metal matrices and wedges. Bioclear matrices are tooth and surface specific, with 9 unique matrices. Interproximators replace traditional wedges and separators -- the anatomic translucent silicone "hugs" pliable Bioclear matrices while separating teeth for strong and broad contacts combined with round mooth embrasures. The system is intended to create minimally traumatic and minimally invasive restorations tailored to every tooth.

With Bioclear, Class II reconstructions are substantially more biomimetic, mimicking natural tooth shape and structure. Bioclear translucent components allow buccal-lingual light curing with dual curing tips for fast and complete curing.
