Post-operative sensitivity is an ever-present clinical problem with posterior restorations, with studies showing incidence rates up to 63%. While your patient’s comfort is of paramount importance, post-operative sensitivity can also result in added chair time when a restoration is compromised by an ineffective desensitizing technique.
Low film thickness
The average width of a dentin tubule is 3 microns, so the film thickness of your adhesive is extremely important for proper wetting, penetration, and sealing of the dentin substrate. ALL-BOND 2 adhesive primers exhibit ideal, low film thickness, and are indicated for both direct and indirect bonding restorations. G5 from CLINICIAN’S CHOICE is a 5% Glutaraldehyde and 35% HEMA aqueous solution that works by coagulating the plasma proteins contained within the dentinal tubule fluid. This coagulation forms an initial ‘plug’, eliminating intra-tubular fluid movement–the core cause of dentinal sensitivity. In clinical studies, glutaraldehyde has consistently been proven to significantly decrease sensitivity on hypersensitive teeth without affecting bond strength between treated surfaces and controls.
Glutaraldehyde also has an antibacterial effect, protecting the tooth/restoration surfaces from bacteria growth and may prevent secondary caries in cases where micro-leakage has occurred. Additionally, G5’s sealing capabilities means you will experience gap-free margins.
Clinical Overview
G5 is an aqueous solution providing 5% Glutaraldehyde and 35% HEMA. It works well to desensitize Class I and II restorations as well as crown preps, both temporary and permanent. Occludes dentin tubules to a depth of 200 µm without interfering with bond strength of the adhesive. For use with 4th and 5th generation adhesives when a total etch technique is used. Glutaraldehyde has an antibacterial effect, protecting the tooth/restoration surface bacterial growth and secondary caries where micro-leakage has occurred. G5 has a profound sealing capability which means you will experience gap-free margins.
