Dentalcompare Releases Comprehensive Report on Handpiece

Dentalcompare, the leading online product information resource for the dental industry, today announced they've published their report on Dental Handpieces. The survey, conducted over a two-month period and deployed through multiple channels, had nearly 600 completions by practicing dentists within the United States.

"Market data is often a key influencer for product development," said Dennis O'Neill, Publisher for Dentalcompare. "The goal of this survey was to shine light on the dental handpiece market and purchasing intent. We achieved our goals and this is research the dental industry will find useful."

Highlights of the report include:

  • The majority of dentists plan to buy an electric handpiece. The top reasons for not owning are cost and not seeing the need. Less than 1% of dentists are concerned with electric handpieces overheating.
  • Approximately half of respondents own a handpiece maintenance system.
  • Cost and not seeing the need are the biggest reasons for dentists not owning a soft-tissue laser. However, more than 50% of dentists still plan on purchasing in the future.
  • Most dentists would consider purchasing equipment such as a handpiece or laser online.

"Although dentists continue to be cost-conscious, they are looking to purchase new products and equipment for their practice," said Eric McGovern, Product Manager for Dentalcompare. "We'll use this data to continue to expand our product information and editorial in order to help dental professionals make more informed purchasing decisions."
